A campaign shining the spotlight on women facing their own mortality - those affected at a young age by a life changing illness or disease. Using art & the power of voice to empower, support charities and change the narrative of social stigmatisation of disease.
Mortal And Strong is a national campaign shining the spotlight on health inequalities. With a vision of being a sustainable project that runs every two years, 2024 sees the launch focusing on Women's health inequalities. By putting a spotlight on real women facing incurable disease at a young age, but focusing on the strength and messages of hope to help inspire and empower others. In turn reducing the stigma of disease, reducing the isolation that comes with a life changing diagnosis and raising awareness for a more supportive society.
Interviewing 100 women across the UK to share their honest experience of disease at a young age, but focusing on the strength they have found and how they are living life well. These voices are being shared through a Podcast which has already gained regular international downloads within a month of launching. The BBC covered the story in regional press quoting 'a rolling stone that will gather pace'...
Liz is curating a collection of 100 artworks by artists responding to an open call nationally. Both acclaimed and emerging artists have signed up to produce artworks inspired by these stories, which will come together in an exhibition in 2025. The exhibition will fundraise for multiple charities nominated by the Voices and supported by MAS.
Liz's vision for turning the Japanese art of Kintsugi into a powerful photography series is transcending the narrative and message of MAS. Using real gold leaf to pull out the scars of the 100 Voices, the series is a poignant moment capturing the raw vulnerability and impact of disease, but showing it as a thing of beauty and strength. Photographer Sammy Weston has become part of the Mortal And Strong team leading the project to turn Liz's vision into a reality.
